MPSB is principally involved in the management, harvesting and extraction of plantation timber grown within the current 25,000 hectares of land located in the Bengkoka Peninsula in the District of Pitas, Sabah and operates from a logging camp in Telaga with three barge jetties and some basic infrastructure. Back in the 80s, the State Government of Sabah gazetted to SAFODA a portion of land measuring approximately 63,000 hectares in the Benkoka Peninsula.

SAFODA has planted the land with mainly Acacia Mangium, a fast growing species of plantation timber, typically categorised as hardwood, with a harvestable maturity of 8 years.

Recognising the importance of sustainability of natural resources and the ever increasing demand for Acacia Mangium by pulp and paper manufacturers, the Group though MPSB has secured a 60 year concession over a total of 25,000 hectares of land with SAFODA.

The principal products of MPSB can be classified as:

  Anika Timber Sdn Bhd (ATSB)

ATSB acts as the primary trading arm for the Group’s Timber Division and plays in integral role in both the marketing and trading of timber and timber related products as well as the exploration and positioning of our products in existing, developing and emerging markets.

The Timber Division’s efforts are currently primed at the favourable Asian Pacific market, of which, China is now poised to become a primary consumer of Acacia Mangium. A great deal of our time is also spent targeting the Japanese market, where the enhanced appreciation of quality plantation timber originates. The majority of our saw logs output ends up in Japan where we note the positive year on year demand.

Besides the focus on marketing and sales, ATSB also plays an important role as a conduit between our customers and the local authorities, such as SAFODA, the port authorities, Customs, etc where we also advise on the best possible and most efficient means of exporting our timber products to destination ports outside of Malaysia. With the ever increasing freight charges, ATSB’s voluntary offer and assistance to buyers will certainly benefit both parties which leads to both tangible and intangible time and costs savings.

ATSB also trades in the following products:

Acacia Mangium Pulp logs
Tropical Species Sawn Timber
Acacia Mangium Saw Logs General Trading (other timber and timber related products)
Acacia Mangium Sawn Timber
